Photosynthetic characteristics of a tropical population of Nitella cernua (Characeae, Chlorophyta) Braz. J. Plant Physiol.
Vieira Jr.,Jair; Necchi Jr.,Orlando.
Photosynthetic characteristics (assessed by chlorophyll fluorescence and O2 evolution) were analysed monthly during one year in a tropical population of Nitella cernua from southeastern Brazil (20º50'32" S, 49º26'15" W). Parameters derived from photosynthesis-irradiance (PI) curves by fluorescence (high values of the photosynthetic parameter, Ik, and lack or low values of photoinhibition, beta) suggested adaptation to high irradiance, whereas those by O2 evolution showed a different pattern (low values of Ik and compensation irradiance, Ic, high values of photosynthetic efficiency, alpha, and photoinhibition). Parameters from PI curves by O2 evolution suggested light acclimation: Ik and maximum photosynthetic rate, Pmax (as rETR, relative electron transfer...

Seasonal dynamics of Rhipicephalus sanguineus (Acari: Ixodidae) in dogs from a police unit in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil Ciência Rural
Louly,Carla Cristina Braz; Fonseca,Iracele Nogueira; Oliveira,Vilma Ferreira de; Linhares,Guido Fontgalland Coelho; Menezes,Liliana Borges de; Borges,Lígia Miranda Ferreira.
The seasonal dynamics of Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks was developed in dogs from a Police Unit in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil, from July 2001 to July 2002. The study was carried out on seven naturally infested dogs (two English Cocker Spaniels and five mongrel dogs), with ages between six months and 10 years. Every two weeks, the numbers of feeding larvae, nymphs, and adults were determined. Dogs showing infestation levels above 500 adult ticks received three acaricide treatments. Considering that the treatments had affected the development of some peaking populations of ticks, it was inferred the occurrence of the following peaks: - larvae (four peaks): from August to November, from November to February, from March to May, and from May to July; - nymphs...

Seasonality and host preference of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi of five plant species in the inner Mongolia steppe, China BJM
Su,Yuan-Ying; Sun,Xin; Guo,Liang-Dong.
The seasonal change and host preference of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) colonization and community composition of five common plant species Agropyron cristatum, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Cleistogenes squarrosa, Leymus chinensis, and Stipa grandis in the Inner Mongolia steppe were investigated. The AM root length colonization rates were different among the five plant species and were generally high in early (May and June) and late (September) growth seasons and low in August. A total of 18 AM fungal species representing five genera were isolated from rhizosphere soils of the five plant species, and most AM fungi had not host specificity, except that Acaulospora sp., Glomus constrictum, G. diaphanum and Glomus sp. showed a certain degree of host preference....

Spatiotemporal dynamics of soil rotifers in a South-Bohemian beech forest PAB
Devetter,Miloslav.
The objective of this work was to determine seasonal variation and vertical distribution of the soil rotifer assemblage in a climax beech forest in South Bohemia. During 2005, soil rotifer was investigated to the species level. Soil samples of 10 cm² and 10 cm in depth were divided into five layers, which were processed separately. Thirty one rotifer species were identified during the investigation. Dominant species significantly changed throughout the seasons. The most abundant species were Encentrum arvicola and Wierzejskiella vagneri among the monogononts, and Adineta steineri, Ceratotrocha cornigera, Habrotrocha filum, Habrotrocha ligula, Macrotrachela plicata, Mniobia tentans, Mniobia incrassata and Mniobia granulosa among the bdelloids. Mean Shannon...

Species composition and seasonal succession of saprophagous calliphorids in a rural area of Córdoba: Argentina Biol. Res.
BATTAN HORENSTEIN,MOIRA; LINHARES,ARICIO X; ROSSO,BEATRIZ; GARCÍA,MARÍA D.
During 2004, four experiments were carried out, one each season, in order to determine the species composition and seasonal dynamics of Calliphoridae in a rural area of Córdoba (Argentina). Two pigs (Sus seroja L.), weighing approximately 8 Kg each, were used in each experiment. They were killed with a blow to the head and immediately placed in a variant of the Schoenly et al. (1991) trap. One pig was exposed in the shade and the other one under direct sunlight. The insect fauna was collected daily during the four first weeks and every two or three days thereafter. A total of 16.609 adults of Calliphoridae were collected, and later on identified as one of the following seven species: Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann), Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius),...

Temporal variations of larval digenean assemblages parasitizing Heleobia parchappii (Mollusca: Cochliopidae) in two shallow lakes from the Buenos Aires province, Argentina Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Merlo,Matías J.; Parietti,Manuela; Etchegoin,Jorge A..
ABSTRACT The larval digenean assemblages in snail hosts are influenced by biotic and abiotic factors and by environmental disturbances due to human activities. Given their susceptibility to different types of impact, they can be useful tools for the study of temporal variations in parasite communities. The study of temporal dynamics in prevalence and species richness of larval digenean assemblages of Heleobia parchappii (D’Orbigny, 1835), in two Pampean lakes, provides a good opportunity to test the supposition that seasonal variations in digenean assemblages are determined by a series of biotic and abiotic factors that operate interdependently. To analyze the temporal variations, and to evaluate how local factors influence these digenean assemblages in...

Two decades of Pseudo-nitzschia spp. blooms and king scallop (Pecten maximus) contamination by domoic acid along the French Atlantic and English Channel coasts: Seasonal dynamics, spatial heterogeneity and interannual variability ArchiMer
Husson, Berengere; Hernandez Farinas, Tania; Le Gendre, Romain; Schapira, Mathilde; Chapelle, Annie.
King scallop contamination (Pecten maximus) by domoic acid, a neurotoxin produced by some species of the diatom Pseudo-nitzschia, is highly problematic because of its lengthy retention in the bivalve tissue, leading to prolonged fishery closures. Data collected within the French Phytoplankton and Phycotoxin monitoring network (REPHY) over the 1995–2012 period were used to characterize the seasonal dynamics and the interannual variability of P.-nitzschia spp. blooms as well as the contamination of king scallop fishing grounds, in six contrasted bays distributed along the French Atlantic coast and English Channel. Monitoring revealed that these toxic events have become more frequent since the year 2000, but with varying magnitudes, frequencies and timing...

Сезонная вариабельность биолюминесценции черноморского гребневика-вселенца Beroe ovata Mayer 1912 (Ctenophora: Beroida) IBSS Repository
Машукова, О. В..
Seasonal dynamics of light-emission characteristics of ctenophore Beroe ovata Mayer 1912 has been revealed. The highest amplitude parameters of the bioluminescence are observed in ctenophores during the summer and autumn periods. The winter and spring periods are characterised by low indicators of intensity of light-emission beroe. Seasonal distinctions in the bioluminescence of ctenophore are caused as the seasonal dynamics of their biochemical structure in dependence on food supplies, and seasonal fluctuations of temperature, and also seasonal dynamics of consumption by them of oxygen.

Сезонная динамика личинок двустворок и их вертикальное распределение в прибрежном планктоне внешнего рейда Севастопольской бухты (Черное море) IBSS Repository
Казанкова, И. И..
